Working with project material and operation structures is only applicable for items with acquisition type 2 (produced item) and only if Manufacturing is installed and activated.
The project structure is used when manufacturing orders are created from an element line. You can either copy a complete item structure or create your own unique project structure by manually adding material and operations.
The project structure can be retrieved in two ways when the manufacturing order is created depending on the setting of the Struct handl field for the element line. If this field is set to 1 (structure), the item structure will be retrieved from the project. If it is set to 2 (additional material), the system will retrieve both the item structure from Manufacturing as well as any additional material that have been defined in the project structure.
Note: Structure handling type 2 will also affect the allocation in stock.
Apart from entering, maintaining or deleting project materials and operations, you can also do the following:
- You can copy an entire item structure (BOM/BOR) from Manufacturing or from a project/quotation structure. The copied item structure can be maintained. See Copy an item structure for more information.
- You can link material records to operations. This means that reservations of incoming material are received at the respective operation’s start time.
- You can define periods for material/operations. This can be used to enter temporary structure records that are only permitted during a certain time. You may define that a structure record expires or becomes valid after a certain date.
- You can link extra operation text to the operations.
- You can link two tools to each operation.
- You can maintain operation cost price information that will be used in the project product costing function. See About project product costing for more information.
- You can perform a project product costing of the project material and operation structure. See About project product costing for more information.
Enquiries and printouts
- Cumulative structure enquiry
For a manufactured or configured item with large structures, this enquiry may be used for purchase planning. The cumulative structure displays a cumulative need for each component in the structure. From this enquiry you can also create purchase requisitions. Create a cumulative structure for a phase element and then purchase requisitions for more information. - Product costing enquiry
This enquiry displays the calculated cost for the project material and operation structure. - Item conformity criteria enquiry
- Structure printout
This printout displays the project material and operation structure for a selected element line. This printout is accessed from the Structure maintenance. Note: The project phase status is changed to 20 (printed) when this report has been printed.
