Alternative products can, for example, be defined for an item structure or a specific manufacturing order if the quality of the produced end item varies. Instead of scrapping the non-conforming items you define them as alternative. The normal item and the alternative items are separated by different item codes. See Define alternative products for an item structure and Define alternative products for a manufacturing order for information about how to set up the alternative products.
