Identify and adjust abnormal demand

Related topics

By choosing to adjust demand through the Demand variation analysis/update report program, demand adjustments will be made for those item/warehouse combinations that you have selected to be included in this analysis, and that meet the requirements for unusually high or low demand.

Note: This routine also allows you to interactively work with the calculated values before the actual update in the Item/Warehouse file is done. This is described in Work with demand variation.

  1. Select the Print demand variation analysis/updates menu item.
  2. On Demand variation list printout/update, use the selection fields to narrow down the number of selected items and click OK.
  3. You access the next panel. Complete the following fields:
  4. Demand deviation
Enter a percentage. If the demand (excluding any demand adjustment) for a specific item/warehouse combination in this selection has deviated from the period forecast by a percentage greater than or less than the percentage in this field, the system includes the item/warehouse combination in this selection.
    Forecast period
Enter the forecast period for which demand deviation should be evaluated and updated. Note: This field displays the previous forecast period. In most cases, you will not change this value since you want to perform the analysis for the previous period to influence the forecast for the current period. However, you can change it to any historical period from the Active forecast file. If you change it, you must run the inventory calculations again, starting from the forecast period directly after the forecast period you entered in this program.
    Update demand adj
This field can only be completed if Auto adjust demand is set to NO in the IC control file. Indicate if Demand adjustment in the Forecast file should be updated for the items with abnormal demand.
Note: If this field is set to YES, then the demand adjustments will override the existing values in the Forecast file. Demand will be adjusted for the period in Forecast period and will affect the forecast for the following period.
Note: If you have selected an historical forecast period you must run the Inventory calculations program again. Otherwise, the demand adjustment will not be reflected in the forecast.
    Update in work file
Leave the defaulted NO. See Work with demand variation for further details and information about the rest of the fields on this panel.

Click OK. The system immediately updates the Forecast file and prints a report containing all items that show an abnormal demand in any historical forecast period that is a part of the Active forecast file. For each item, the following is printed:

    • The forecast and demand for the specified forecast period
    • The calculated demand deviation (%)
    • The existing demand adjustment and net demand
    • The new demand adjustment and calculated net demand

Note: The new demand adjustment values are always displayed on the report. However, these values are only updated in the Forecast file if Update demand adj is set to YES. Exit the routine.
