Create a CMC data set

A CMC data set is used as a template outlining the layout of the fields that are to be displayed on the CMC panel. At any time you can preview the end result by using the Simulation function available on the detail panel.

  1. Select the CMC data sets menu item.
  2. You access the Work with CMC data set panel listing the default data sets and their description. The naming of each preloaded data set corresponds with the view of information where it is used. When you create a new data set, it is recommended that you save it under an identity that resembles the view to which it is to be connected. For example, the preloaded data set 100 is connected to the view 100. In this way you can easily keep track of the view in which certain fields are displayed. This is important if you create different views for several CMC roles. Click Add.
  3. You access the Work with CMC data set detail panel where you complete the following fields:
  4. Data set
Enter a unique code that will identify the new data set.
    Description
Enter a description of the data set that resembles the CMC role to which it is to be assigned.
    Number of columns
A maximum of three columns with field information can be displayed. Enter the number of columns the system should use when displaying the fields of information.

Click OK to update and return to the previous panel.

  5. Select the data set you just created and click the Fields option.
  6. You access Work with CMC data set, Select fields, displaying a list of all the fields in the CMC field definition file that you selected and sequenced in Add a new field to the CMC field definition file. From that list, you will now select and sequence the fields that you want to attach to the new data set, which is displayed at the top of the panel. Complete the following fields:
  7. Seq
Enter the applicable numbers next to the field descriptions. The numbers determine in what sequence the fields of information are to be displayed.
    Skip B
If you want to force a field to a new line, e.g., for display purposes, you enter a number between 0 and 9 in this field to denote the number of blank lines the system should skip before the field is displayed on the CMC panel. Note: The number of lines calculated for the selected field is not stored in the file. It is calculated during the process based on the data entered in the Seq, DDL, and Skip B fields.

Click OK to update. The selected fields are listed first and renumbered in intervals of ten. Click Simulation to preview the panel layout while working on the data set.

  8. You access Work with CMC data set, CMC simulation where you can see any blank lines you forced before a field (in Skip B). If you click Show line number you are able to view the actual number of lines used by the data set. The number of lines skipped by the system, as entered in the Skip B field, are clearly displayed. In this way you can very easily fine-tune your CMC views. Click OK. Exit the routine.
