Setting up a bill of routing for configurable items

Related topics

The bill of routing is used in the configuration process to generate a unique routing for the configured item. It shows the equipment, personnel and operation sequence necessary to build the item.

BOR set-up

When you set up the bill of routing for a configurable item you have two options. You can:

  • Set up all operations in the configurator bill of routing table.
  • Set up the fixed operations in Basic data, i.e. in the item structure for the parent item. Set up the variable and alternative operations in the configurator bill of routing table.

You can also set up an alternative bill of routing for a configurable item. This can be used if an operation cannot be performed in the usual work centre.

Conformity criteria

You can also connect conformity criteria to the bill of routing. The criteria will be copied to the manufacturing order operation and printed on the operation cards as informational text that can be used in a quality control of the finished product.

Configuration of production technology code

A production technology code can be defined for the configurator bill of routing. This code is used to define default run priorities and sequences for operations in the Manufacturing order detail planning routine, or for item search purposes.

Using substitution variables, you can configure the production technology code so that it reflects the selected attributes of a configured parent item. To configure the code you enter % followed by an attribute code with a total length of three digits. The substitution variables will be replaced by the actual attribute value during the product configuration. The configured production technology code will then be added to the Production technology code table.
