On a shipment type you can specify the values that should be defaulted and the entries that should be mandatory when outbound shipments are manually created. The shipment type specifications are then valid for a shipment header defined with this particular shipment type.

You can also specify that certain actions should automatically take place when an outbound shipment is closed or updated as shipped.
