Manufacturing group orders

Related topics

Group orders are created for manufacturing orders which have an operation in common or which are created from the same material. For example, you might group manufacturing orders for items which are all to be painted blue. All blue items are painted at the same time, meaning that no adjustment is needed to the work centre or tool in-between the jobs. The fact that a large number of items can be handled as a group enhances the efficiency and reduces time and cost for machine set-up.

The group order can either be connected to the manufacturing order header or operations. The group order is usually connected to the header if the items will follow each other throughout the entire manufacturing order life cycle. For example, table tops in different sizes and shapes that are all cut from the same piece of wood, lathed in the same machine and painted the same way. Whether or not the group order can be connected to manufacturing order headers or operations is defined in the group order type. See Prerequisites below for more information. If the group order is connected to an operation in a manufacturing order, it will only influence the manufacturing order status during that operation. When the connected operation is completed, the manufacturing order will continue its process in the manufacturing order life cycle.

Process

The group order process is as follows:

Group order status

As you work your way through the different stages in the group order cycle, the system will automatically assign status codes to the group order. The status codes for group orders are:

Status Description
10 Ready
20 Printed
40 Started
60 Complete

Prerequisites

A group order type must be set up in the Manufacturing group order type table. The group order type defines:

  • If the group order should be connected to the manufacturing header or operations.
  • If the manufacturing orders or operations should be reported from the manufacturing group order.
  • If there should be a restriction to the number of orders added to the group order. The restriction/limit can be based on either order quantity or operation time.
  • If a consolidated order should be created in Time.

Time

A consolidated order can be created in Time for group orders connected to manufacturing order operations. If so, operation reporting can be done from Time. See Lock/unlock a manufacturing group order for information about how to connect the group order to a consolidated order in Time.
