Simulations are calculated and created the same way as active versions. The difference is that the simulation functions as an enquiry, meaning that you cannot release or re-schedule orders.
Simulation of MRP is used for the creation of forecasts for the coming month or year regarding either material or workload. The creation of a forecast contains the following steps:
- Create a supply plan forecast for parent item
Since no sales orders exist for the coming year, you must create a supply plan forecast before creating the simulation. See Create the base supply plan version for instructions. - Create a supply plan forecast for lower levels (optional)
If you want sub-assemblies and components to be included in the forecast, you must create a separate supply plan forecast for lower levels of the parent item. This is done through a batch job. See Calculate lower level requirements from supply plan for information about how to run the batch job. - Run the MRP simulation calculation
See MRP simulation calculation below. - Work with the simulation
At this point you can analyse the simulation to see the requirements for the coming year for the item. View simulation below.
MRP simulation calculation
- Select the Work with reports/jobs – MFG orders or Work with reports/jobs – Purchase planning menu item.
- You access Work with batch jobs. Select MRP_RUN and click Submit job.
- You access Material requirements planning (MRP). Complete the following fields:
- Simulation version
- Enter a simulation version. If an active version should be created this field should be left blank. If the version is new, enter a description.
- Supply plan version
- Enter an existing supply plan version.
- Caution: Do not use a supply plan version with Adjust forecast set to YES. This means that the forecast will take current stock into consideration. Since MRP also may take the current stock into consideration when calculating the requirements, the result will not be reliable.
- Supply plan forecast
- Indicate if a supply plan forecast version is selected. For this task, set this field to YES.
See Calculate material requirements planning (MRP) for information about the remaining fields.
Click OK. The system calculates the MRP simulation. Exit the routine.
View simulation
The next step is to view and analyse the result of the simulation.
- Select the Work with MRP (Manufacturing) or Work with MRP (Purchase) menu item.
- You access Work with MRP manufacturing or Work with MRP purchase respectively. Click the Select/delete sim function key to select the simulation version.
- You access Simulation version selection. You have the following two options. You can:
- Click the Select option to select the simulation version.
- Click the Delete option to delete the simulation version.
- You access Work with MRP manufacturing, Simulation version XXXXX (name of simulation) where you can analyse the results of your forecast by accessing the enquiries that are accessible from this panel. Exit the routine.
For this task, mark the simulated version and click Select.
